Sugar is required for production of bioenergy and other metabolic processes taking place in our body cells. Though sugar is an important part of our diet, the simple fact is that our consumption of sugar largely exceeds our body’s metabolic needs. Present in soft drinks and most types of processed food and sweets, its consequences are dire as its consumption has been associated with an increase in diabetes, heart disease and many other health problems.
Excess sugar damages our body cells and impairs their metabolism. Sugar (glucose) can bind to cellular proteins causing their structural changes and dysfunction, and can even lead to destruction of cells. The cell damage caused by excess sugar is usually irreversible, making protection against such cell damage of utmost importance. Among cells most easily damaged by high sugar levels are the smooth muscle cells in the blood vessels.
A study published by the Dr. Rath Research Institute tested the efficacy of different vitamin C supplements in protecting aortic smooth muscle cells against sugar damage. Dr. Rath VitaCforte and three other Vitamin C formulations from popular supplement brands were compared in the study, and all were tested at their recommended doses.
Dr. Rath VitaCforte offered more than two times the protection of the other vitamin C products (formula 1, 2 and 3) which offered minimal or no protection.
This scientific evaluation proves that Dr. Rath VitaCforte is far more effective than other popular vitamin C formulations in protecting cells against the damage caused by high blood sugar.
The graph below shows that smooth muscle cells challenged with high sugar easily die as 80% of the cells died when exposed to this compound. Only 20% of the cells remained viable (blue column).
The exposure of smooth muscle cells to the same amount of sugar but in the presence of Dr. Rath VitaCforte resulted in better protection of these cells. About 75% of the cells were alive and functional (red column).
