Matthias Rath, M.D.

Matthias Rath, M.D. is an internationally renowned scientist, physician and health advocate. His scientific discoveries in the areas of heart disease, cancer and other diseases have reshaped modern medicine.  He founded Cellular Medicine, the health concept which explains that the primary cause of today’s most common chronic diseases, including various forms of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and others, is a result of a chronic deficiency of vitamins, amino acids and other specific micronutrients.

In 1987, Dr. Rath discovered the connection between vitamin C deficiency and lipoprotein(a), a new risk factor for heart disease. His breakthrough research led him to an invitation to join two-time Nobel Laureate Linus Pauling as the first Director of Cardiovascular Research at the Linus Pauling Institute in Palo Alto, California.

Between 1990 and 1992, Dr. Rath, supported by Dr. Pauling, worked on lipoprotein (a) and found it not only to be a key molecule in deciphering the causes of cardiovascular disease, but that it also provided crucial evidence for identifying the main mechanisms of the spread of cancer.  Dr. Pauling said Dr. Rath’s discoveries would one day be seen among the most important of the 20th century.

Dr. Rath together with his long-time colleague, Dr. Aleksandra Niedzwiecki, started his own research institute in 1999 to continue Dr. Rath’s ground breaking work and research in natural approaches to health. Today the Dr. Rath Research Institute  in California has become the leading institution of its kind in the world.  With almost 200 scientific publications in professional journals, and numerous presentations of their scientific work and patents, the Institute inspires other researchers to investigate and further progress micronutrient-based approaches to health.  Dr. Rath’s popular health books“Why Animals Don’t Get Heart Attacks…But People Do!”  and “Victory Over Cancer” have sold millions of copies worldwide.
