The smooth muscle cells that build our blood vessels contract and relax regularly which affects the blood flow in the cardiovascular system and consequently, blood pressure. The gel composed of Human Aortic Smooth Muscle Cells embedded in collagen which imitates the composition of the artery wall has been used as a test system to evaluate the efficacy of Healthy Blood Pressure Synergy Formula (HBPSF) for their ability to relax smooth muscle cells.
Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors are a class of medication widely used to prevent the formation of a metabolite called angiotensin II, which causes blood vessels to constrict and narrow. Inhibition of ACE activity helps blood vessels to relax and let more blood through, thereby lowering blood pressure.
Nitric Oxide (NO) produced by our body cells is an important molecule for health. It is a vasodilator which means that it relaxes the inner muscles of our blood vessels. This causes the vessels to widen thereby increasing blood flow and lowering blood pressure.
Our study shows that in the presence of increasing concentrations of Healthy Blood Pressure Synergy Formula (HBPSF), the production of NO (measured as nitrites) in human vascular endothelial cells significantly increases. This should have positive effect on normalizing blood pressure.
